GENERAL PREPARATION BEFORE INSTALLATION
Before installing Hallett Gutte Cover’s inspect existing gutters and down spouts to make sure the following conditions are acceptable (Every installation is different adjustments may be needed).
- The gutters are in good condition (not warped, bent, etc.) and top lip of gutter is flat.
- Manufacturer’s pitch recommendation are 1 inch (2.5cm) per 30 feet (9.1 m) of gutter.
- There are no more than 30 feet of gutter for each down spout.
- Clean and make any necessary repairs on gutters and downspouts. Remove any strainers and screening from gutters and downspouts.
- Manufacturer’s down spout recommendations are 3×4 inches, with a drop opening of at least 2.75×3.75 inches.
Installation of covers with above items not in place will likely lead to a malfunction of the system and will void manufacture warranty
Step 1: Start at one end of the gutter and trim the front of the cover so you can bend it down into the gutter on the inside of the end cap, leaving no openings for birds or other small animals. Trimming of the cover is necessary to get a tight fit. Repeat this at all ends of the gutter.
Step 2: Attach clip on each end of the cover with an upward rotating motion at a position 4″ to 6″ from the end.
Step 3: Slide back edge of cover under the first row of shingles. Once in place screw (provided) clip (provided) to top of gutter so there is about a 1/8 inch (0.3 cm) to 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) gap between the cover and the gutter.
Repeat this process on remaining pieces interlocking cover together.
ENDS OF GUTTER
At the end of the gutter it is important to bend cover down into the gutter on the inside of the end cap, leaving no openings. This will keep birds and debris from getting into the gutter.
Trimming the cover will be necessary.
Determine the angle of the corner and cut cover to match, allowing 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) overlap of the covers, and screw together.
INSIDE CORNERS AND ROOF VALLEYS
Inside corners and all valleys need a deflector to insure no water run off. The deflector (see Inside Corner diagram below) is the best way of installing an inside corner. Determine the angle of the corner and cut cover sections to match allowing 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) overlap of the cover. Cut the deflector out of a piece of cover, bend into an L, trim and bend to fit angle of the corner. Seal between deflector and cover and screw in place.
Note: Place clips so deflector extends past clips (see Inside Corner diagram below)
Hint: Screen may be used in place of deflector for inside corners; however, it is recommended to use the deflector to insure proper water flow.
VERY STEEP OR FLAT ROOFS
Depending on the gutter installation the cover may need to be bent up or down where the cover meets the roof for a better fit and to allow the shingles to lay flat. The pitch of the roof will not affect the ability of how Hallett Gutter Cover® will work.
To avoid run over or other problems, an annual check of the gutter is suggested to see that everything is working properly.
Warranty is void if installation of Hallett Gutter Cover® is improper.
One box of Hallett Gutter Cover® contains:
100 ft. (30.48 m) of Cover, in twenty five 4 ft. (1.22 m) sections
